More Information

Kanangra Falls Canyon
This is the longest and one of the most impressive canyons in the Kanangra area. This challenging and spectacular trip has about 12 abseils, a few of which are very wet. The first half of the descent involves abseiling down beside and partially through a massive 150 metre waterfall. There are two options for this section, either down an exposed open face or down the famous "Slot", a narrow 100 metre fissure. Below here lies the canyon itself.

After lots of abseiling, scrambling and even a seven metre waterjump for the adventurous, the creek finally levels out to walking and boulder hopping. We camp near Kanangra on the previous night to ensure a dawn start from the Kanangra car park. Breakfast and tents will be provided. Participants should bring a sleeping bag.

Danae Brook Canyon
A very challenging trip down one of the most spectacular canyons anywhere. There are eight abseils, many of which are very wet. A great finish to this magnificent canyon involves scrambling down a seemingly endless jumble of boulders between towering rock walls. This is a long, strenuous trip and is suitable for highly fit people only. As with Kanangra Falls, we camp near Kanangra on the previous night to allow a dawn start from the Kanangra carpark.

Dione Dell Canyon
Four exciting abseils up to 30 metres high beside rushing waterfalls and superb natural scenery make this a trip to remember. Dione Dell, located near the famous Kanangra Walls, is two hours drive from Katoomba, and is in many ways a shorter and easier version of Kalang Falls (without the hard walk out!). It is suitable for people of moderate to average fitness who have abseiled before. A much more open and sunny canyon than River Caves, Deep Pass or Bottleneck canyons.

Long abseils, huge waterfalls (Margaret Falls measures 100 metres) and stunning views on the walk back are the highlights of this trip. It is a beautiful walk along the creek before you reach the first abseil. Approximately 40 metres of gliding down a rope between two thundering waterfalls is an exciting experience. On the second abseil, a hidden ledge over a deep pool saves you from diving fully into the water. The canyon becomes narrower before the spectacular, overhanging third abseil, again right next to a thundering waterfall onto a ledge.

The deeply cut gorge of Christy’s Creek leads you on to the top of the 100 metre high Margaret Falls. There is no choice but climbing back up the side wall of the gorge, gaining height quickly on steep ground through thick bush. At the end a narrow track will take you back to the start, providing stunning views of the cliffs and valleys of the Blue Mountains.

Kalang Falls Canyon
This impressive multi-pitch abseil canyon can be done almost all year round, providing you can avoid getting too wet as you descend the cliffs beside the waterfalls. The exit is the same as Kanangra, so takes up to two hours to return to the carpark.
