More Information

Day One (L,D)
Departing Sydney, we cross the rugged ranges of the Blue Mountains. Watching the scenery change as you pass through the central western slops and plains of NSW, you will notice the vegetation types alter as you move further inland, away from the influences of coastal weather. Overnight camp at Cobar.

Day Two (B,L,D)
This morning we pass through the town of Wilcannia, before arriving at Broken Hill. After a short tour of town, we visit the “ghost town” of Silverton and the Desert Sculpture Park on the outskirts of Broken Hill.

Day Three (B,L,D)
Today we travel north along the Silver City Highway, arriving at the tiny town of Tibooburra. Take the time to visit an old museum featuring a collection of Aboriginal artefacts collected from surrounding stations in the district.

Day Four (B,L,D)
Today includes a visit to Cameron Corner, which is the junction of NSW, QLD and South Australia. The famous Dingo Fence, designed to keep dingos out of the sheep country further south, forms part of the NSW/QLD border. The whole of the Sturt NP alternates between mobile sand dunes and stony gibber deserts. In the afternoon we explore the jump-up country to the North, in Qld. Tonight we stay again at Tibooburra.

Day Five (B,L,D)
This morning we travel southeast to Mootwingee NP. We then tour some of the Aboriginal art sites after a visit to the cultural centre. This afternoon we follow the dreaming paths into the sacred mountain.

Day Six
After an early morning walk to a nearby hill, overlooking the more remote areas of the NP, we head south through vast cattle properties, returning to Broken Hill.

Day Seven
Today is an enjoyable day visiting the interesting places that Broken Hill offers. These include the office of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the historical and mining museum, and the numerous art galleries in town. We visit the gallery of Pro Hart, a controversial yet famous painter who lives in Broken Hill. The gallery has a collection of both Pro Hart’s work as well as that of other interesting and well-known artists.

This is the final day of the tour for passengers not completing the 2nd leg of the tour south. Departing passengers will return to Sydney by train/bus/plane.
